There is a shortened version of this with just the prompts and answers on my Instagram but I decided I’d expand a little and either provide a synopsis of the books I picked or my reasonings for it.

In order for the human race to continue, women must be safe and empowered. It’s an obvious idea, but like a vagina, it needs great attention and love in order to be revealed.

Your secret is safe with my indifference.

I found this tag over on Thrice Read and Maxxesbooktopia. The tag and both posts were so fun that I thought I’d give it a go. If you like this you should try the tag yourself and go check out the posts.
Resist much, obey little
– Walt Whitman
It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted on here… I’m trying to get back into writing and blogging so I thought doing some tags might be a place to start. Even though this tag is at least a few months old, I remembered reading the tag done over by the girls at Thrice Read and thought I’d give it a go. If you read this and like it go check out theirs. The original creator seems to have been Accio Books but I am unable to find a working link to the original post.
Recently Watched – recently finished reading: The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden. I really enjoyed this one. Arden’s writing style is magical and chilling. I can’t wait for whatever comes next from her with this series or otherwise.
Top Picks – recommended to you based on another book you read: I have recently developed the very serious problematic habit of purchasing multiple subscription boxes and spending all my money. With that though I usually choose which the ones to get based on the ‘if you liked this then you’ll like this’. The last time that was the case was for Fairyloot’s February box and the book was Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza. I think the ones listed with it were Illuminae, and Rebel Of the Sands.
Recently Added – last book you bought: Though I don’t have the physical copy yet, Radio Silence by Alice Oseman was the last book I bought. I online book shop probably way too often for my bank account. From an actual bookstore the last book I bought was…as I look at my piles of TBR to figure out which one that was… I think it was Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, Vol. 3 by Naoko Takeuchi.
Popular on Netflix – a book you have and haven’t read everyone else is talking about: A book I have read that everyone else is talking about would be, A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. Yeah, I jumped on that bandwagon pretty late but full speed ahead none the less. On a similar note, one that I haven’t read is Throne of Glass, also by Sarah J. Maas. I do own them now though, once my reading slump passes those are at the top of my list.
Comedies – find a funny book: Hark! A Vagrant by Kate Beaton. A book everyone should own and keep on their coffee table so all may enjoy and get a taste of feminism and some hilarious parodies of history and pop culture. Also Beaton is a Canadian, so… represent!
Dramas – find a character who is a drama King or Queen: Adam from Maggie Stbievater’s The Raven Cycle. Sure at times he may have his reasons but there were just so many times I desperately wished he’d just let someone help him.
Animation – a book with cartoons/animation/Illustrations on the cover: Nimona by Noelle Stevenson. I love Stevenson’s voice and art. It’s hilarious and fun. Recently she has also been a guest on the show Critical Role, which is where I have laid many of my affections. I will probably write a post about the show soon actually but if you have read her stuff and want more of her maybe check out episode 93-94.
Watch Again – book or series you want to re-read: Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. I never not want to be re-reading Harry Potter. I haven’t re-read it in like 5 years though because university is a thing that takes up a lot of time. And also because my TBR pile has become multiple piles and I feel guilty re-reading books instead of reading new ones.
Documentaries – find a non-fiction book that you want to recommend to everyone: We Should All be Feminist by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Short but filled with so much power. This book should be read by everyone.
Action and Adventure – action packed book: Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdoms by Leigh Bardugo, come to mind at the moment. Also I just love both of these books. Characters. Story. Everything.
New Releases – a newly released book or book coming out that you are excited about: Once and for All by Sarah Dessen. This book doesn’t come out until June but I’m very excited about it.

At little late posting this according to my other post about welcoming autumn but I can do what I want and the colour scheme for this photo is working for the weather we have had on the island for the past few days.
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson was the perfect Contemporary YA novel to end off the last of the summer months with. From summer romances and secrets, to tested family and friendship dynamics. The Unexpected Everything gave me exactly what I hoped it would. A feel good summer read with some extra piece thrown in. Like dogs. All of the dogs, all of the time. Normally, I’m all about the cats in books but Bertie the dog is adorable and I want him as much as the fictional boy that comes with him. After all it isn’t the end of summer untiI I have a few fictional crushes. (My crush is on the guy not the dog. Just to clarify)
Morgan Matson has filled my summer YA fix since I read, Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour, a few years ago. And though I still have yet to read her other two novels I will probably be picking them up for next summer because she definitely knows what she’s doing.
Does anyone else want her to do what Rainbow Rowell did with Carry On from Fangirl and actually write “The Coin of the Realm” or is that just me?
Also I will now be using the phrase “coin of the realm” often because it sounds cool.

Just finished reading this collection of poems by Rita Dove! It was so wonderful.
I’ve been trying to get my hands on it since studying a few of Dove’s poems in my Writing By Women’s class last semester. So I was very happy when I found it at @russellbooksvictoria last week.
Dove’s writing is brilliant and powerful. It’s no surprise that she was poet laureate for the U.S from 1993-1995.
In this collection, Dove works with the Greek myth of Persephone and Demeter to explore the relationships between daughters and mothers at numerous stages and settings.
I would recommend to friends and acquaintances. Especially if they like poetry, modernized tellings of myths, and women writers who are just completely brilliant.
